AL ARD DOC FILM FESTIVAL 2018/2019
XVI PALESTINIAN AND ARAB DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL
Associazione Amicizia Sardegna Palestina (Sardinia Palestine Friendship Association) announces the sixteenth edition of Al Ard Doc Film Festival for all the lovers of the Arab-Palestinian cinema.
All kinds of documentaries (full-length films and short films) will be accepted in the Al Ard “Classic” section;
only short films (both documentaries and fiction films) will be accepted in the new section “Echo of the Camp” (read 1 (a)).
1. Rules
Only films that meet the following conditions may be selected by a Selection Board to participate to the XVI Edition of Al Ard Doc Film Festival:
- films that have been produced since 2015;
- films which treat the Palestinian issue and other political, social, cultural aspects of the Arab world;
- films that observe the aims of the Festival as respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms;
- films which respect a sufficient level of technical quality;
- films unreleased in Sardinia;
- films which do not contain any sort of advertising.
The Selection Board can decide to screen films produced before 2015, but they will be screened out of competition and they won’t receive any award.
1 (a) What’s New?
The XVI Edition of Al Ard starts with great news: a new section “Echo of the camp” has been created. This section is dedicated to films (both documentary and fiction), made by young (up to 30 years old) Palestinian filmmakers, who offer an original view of the life in Palestinian Refugee Camps, inside and outside Palestine.
The work must be a short film (up to 15 min) and a particular award will be assigned by the Selection Board.
2. Submission
To participate in the XVI edition of the Festival is necessary to fill the entry form, find the link above this Rules & Regulation text.
BE CAREFUL: To participate in the “Echo of the camp” section it is necessary to fill the special entry form.
Entries must be submitted by 30 November 2018.
The Selection Board will publish the list of the selected films by 10 December 2018 on www.alardfilmfestival.com.
2.1 Films must be subtitled or dubbed into Italian or English.
The Festival Staff, in accordance with the participants and totally free of charge, can decide to translate the subtitles from English into Italian. In this case, a .SRT format copy of the original subtitles will be requested to the participants. NO OTHER SUBTITLES FORMATS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
2.2 The registration to the Al Ard Doc Film Festival is free of charge.
2.3 The failure to comply with the terms involves the exclusion from the competition. By entering the Festival each filmmaker or producer is responsible for the content of his/her work and warrants that the grant of this licence will not infringe the copyright (sound or pictures) or any other right of any third party. By applying the Festival, each participant explicitly allows to use the sound and the pictures from their film for promotional purposes.

2.4 By applying, copyright's owners also authorize further screenings of their works without any charge and for non-profit purposes during cultural events organized by Associazione Amicizia Sardegna Palestina.
2.5 The candidate states that all information submitted is true and agrees that they can be used in the Festival promotion and communication materials (catalogue, website, press release, etc.).
Both the selected and the non-selected films will remain in the archive of the Association for documentary purposes.
They will not be used for commercial purposes.
2.6 By sending the competition entry form the filmmaker (or whoever on behalf of him/her) full accept all the terms and conditions. Personal information will be dealt according to the terms of Law D. Lgs. 196/2003 and following changes and additions.
3. Jury and Awards
3.1 The Jury of experts will be composed by: Monica Maurer, Ibrahim Nasrallah, Antonello Zanda, Wasim Dahmash, Patrizia Manduchi, Antioco Floris.
3.2 Prizes
- Al Ard (best documentary of the Festival) (assigned by the jury), euro 1000;
- Palestine Award (best documentary about Palestine) (assigned by the jury), euro 1000;
- Emerging Director Award (assigned by the jury), euro 1000;
- Audience Award; (assigned by the audience), euro 500;
- Sardegna Palestina Award (assigned by the Selection Board), euro 500;
- Echo of the Camp, (assigned by the Selection Board), euro 500.
4. Conclusion
Due to limited financial resources, the Association reserves the right to invite just some of the filmmakers and will cover travel expenses, meals and accommodation expenses according to the availability of the festival organization. The cost of a VISA will be charged to the guest. This kind of communication will be conveyed by e-mail directly to the directors.
Sending the entry form implies full acceptance of Regulation & Rules.
